Dear Dale and Sophie,
We have enjoyed the most fantastic week in your amazing Cliff House and we feel privileged to be your first overseas visitors. We will absolutely recommend all the fun experiences your home brings to our friends on our return to Scotland so perhaps a few more Scots will follow us here.
We spent a lot of time on the river in kayaks, swimming and our sorry attempts at fishing - we caught a frog!! (and let it go after some first aid). We also saw the underside of the river quite a bit and have renamed the bridge up river as 'Capsize Bridge'.
Watching the sun come up and listening quietly to all the animals was a treat and we were delighted to hear those coyote howls late at night - we howled back which seemed to confuse them!
Sophie and Dale, you were also perfect hosts - thank you so much for all you care, interest and helpful recommendations. We were humbled and impressed during our visit to Anna and Sam at their Amish farm. We also mirror your restaurant praise for 1844.
Our nightly campfire had a lot of laughs and a lot of chat around it and we constantly looked up to the Cliff House in awe. You both made our week one to remember and the care you have poured into this wonderful home shines through at every turn.

Dale and Sophie,
You have indeed created a place of wonder here! I know you are proud of your Cliff House and I thank you for the opportunity to share in the unique experience of total peace that prevails here. We were truly lucky to have stumbled upon this rare jewel where we could slow down... just enjoy being together. We so enjoyed the kayaks. The river here is tranquil and refreshing. Upriver the Osprey and the Martin gave us glimpses of their world as we paddled by. And thanks Dale for the suggestion of Payne Lake. A nesting pair of Osprey there flew from tree to tree as they lead us away from their nest. Also a loon filled the lake with its haunting call echoed off the high cliffs. A very special day on the water followed by a swim from the dock here at the house. We hate to leave but will do it so much rejuvenated by our "Cliff House" experience.

Dear Dale and Sophie,
Just want to thank you again for a wonderful week! Watching the Oswegatchie River rolling by the deck provided more hours of pleasure and complete relaxation than we thought possible!
The house is truly a work of art and just the right combination of rustic and elegant, cozy and luxurious. And so many fabulous touches, from the sumptuous first breakfast and a top o'the line cookware to the amazingly comfortable tempur-pedic beds! You've thought of EVERYTHING!
We loved getting to know the area and appreciate all the recommendations you made for places to visit and things to do. We especially enjoyed the Amish Farms and the 1844 House, not to mention the good food and fine company at Gentry's! Next time maybe we'll try some fishing and kayaking!

On behalf of our crew I would like to thank you and Sophie for a truly inspiring trip. We have had the fortune to rent many homes throughout the Adirondack and the Oswegatchie River Cliff House is in a class of it’s own. The combination of the beauty of the house and the beauty and serenity of the location are unparalleled. To top all of this off, your amenities and attention to detail are remarkable. All the utensils, bedding, breakfast for first day, kayaks, etc. We simply could not imagine a better place to enjoy the end of our summer. We pray that you and Sophie have great success with your homes. Thank you again for making us feel so welcome, and allowing us to enjoy your corner of paradise.

Thank you a thousand times for providing us such a warm welcome and a gorgeous retreat! We really enjoyed swimming in the river. It is such a blessing to take a dip in fresh water after waking up! We enjoyed good fish on the BBW that we fished in the afternoon.
We relaxed on the deck playing games and watching the tranquility of the river. We had a great treat at 1844 House! Truly a work of art.
You really created a small Eden here, congrats! It was a real pleasure knowing you. You are the jewel of the Oswegatchie River. All the best,

What a wonderful place you have created. You certainly have a place that is relaxing and comfortable. The Cliff House was beyond our expectations. It is beautifully built and the small touches that you have included make it very inviting. The kids had a great time kayaking and thank you for letting us bring our dogs! You are a very gracious host and you attended to all of our needs, and we thank you for that.

Where do we begin to express our sincere gratitude to you for a fantastic week?! Boy did we have fun - kayaks, fishing, catching lots of frogs, hiking, Boldt Castle, Old Fort Henry and Lake Placid complete with a bobsled ride and a trip to the summit of Whiteface Mountain. It doesn't get better than this!! You have created a unique oasis of tranquility, hospitality and perfection - you can be extremely proud of what you've done! Thank you so much for building such a beautiful home and allowing us to stay and share the beauty of the North Country. The view f the river and some of its natural habitats was pretty neat too.
This location was perfect as a "hub" for family get together. Everyone felt at home in such a pleasant atmosphere. You might be seeing us near in the future as we visit our family here in Northern NY.
The food from the Amish was great and so close. The raspberry pie and cinnamon rolls were a big hit as well as the organic meat.
Our visit this year was for my Mom's funeral, but she would have truly enjoyed the house. We will miss her dearly and will always remember where we stayed when we said our final good byes.
We look forward to future vacations and hope that we will be able to stay here again and share the beauty you have captured.

We brainstormed words to describe the house: impressive, beautiful, stunning, cool, awesome, recycled, old, functional, peaceful, exciting, woody, beyond our expectations... we love it!
The river was perfect - swimming, kayaking, and searching for the rock in the middle, fishing, and building mud castles.
The thunder storm! Rain on the roof and light flashing through the big windows, what a treat! It was great to reconnect with family and friends in such a special place!
You have set a high bar for future vacations!

We've never experienced any place quite like this one. Honestly, it was exquisite! We relaxed, exercised, and explored. The house is a one-of-a-kind place, spacious and pretty while being comfortable. You should be proud! We have many new memories to cherish. Thank you for a very special, very lovely week.
